5 Sexual Health Tips from Dr. Laux
By Dr. Marcus Laux, ND.
It takes a commitment to stay in relatively good physical condition; to watch what you eat and drink; to get plenty of rest; and to manage stress in your life. It also takes a little help from 112 Degrees. Your age is just a number—your overall health is what matters most. And there are plenty of things you can do for yourself to stay healthy, sexually active and happy for life:
1. Watch your weight. Being overweight can blunt your sexual performance at every angle. Get your weight under control and you'll go a long way to improving your overall health—as well as your sexual health. You'll also take undo pressure off of your cardiovascular system—as well as your joints. Being overly underweight isn't healthy, either. So eat to live, and live well at a healthy weight.
2. Watch your waist. If your waist is 42-inches or bigger, you're at a 50% greater risk for diminished sexual ability. So get rid of your spare tire and you're likely to spare your sex life, too.
3. Move like your (sex) life depends on it. Exercise is nature's champion of health, and it's indispensable for your sexual health. More is better, and regular, consistent exercise is best. It lowers stress, strengthens your body's ability to repair itself, and supports healthy blood flow. Plus, you'll have better moods to enjoy it all. So do what you like to do, but just make sure you keep moving.
4. It's not just what you eat, but what's eating at you. Stress is a true crippler and killer. It affects every aspect of your well-being, accelerates problems, prevents normal healing and generates excessive free radicals—which ages your body prematurely. Use stress to get motivated, but then let it go!
5. Smoking is a smoking gun. Smoking is one of the single most implicated predispositions for sexual health issues, let alone all the other documented health risks. And it only takes two cigarettes a day to negatively affect your sexual health. Think about that the next time you light up.
